I love a liquid lunch. Hey, I’m a busy gal and some days preparing lunch, and even chewing for that matter, is too much of an effort. However, I do need to stay focused and nourish my body and mind therefore a liquid lunch is perfect for those days that I am juggling numerous tasks. And when I say liquid lunch I am referring to a fruit smoothie or veggie juice…I will save the other type of liquid lunch for the weekends. Today, I am craving my Chocolate Cherry Smoothie because I am feeling a bit chocolatey and what goes better with chocolate than cherries!
This smoothie is super nutritious! Cherries contain fiber and vitamin C, as well as carotenoids and anthocyanins which are powerful anti-oxidant that may decrease the risk of certain cancers and heart disease. Cherries are anti-inflammatory which may relieve pain associated with arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Cherries have also been shown to reduce inflammation due to strenuous exercise so this cherry smoothie is a great post-workout meal.
Raw cacao contains more than 300 phytochemicals and nearly four times the antioxidant power of dark chocolate. Chia seeds are a great source of anti-oxidants, calcium, fiber, protein, and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids making them a powerful anti-inflammatory food. This smoothie contains a good amount of fiber which will keep you feeling full and satisfied.
This smoothie is my lunch, rather than a snack, because it provides approximately 550 calories. Most smoothies pack quite a bit of calories, up to 1200 calories at times, so make it a meal rather than a side dish to your lunch.
Sounds pretty good, right? So, what are you waiting for? Get in that kitchen and make yourself a delicious and nutritious lunch!! Enjoy!
